Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and talented scientist who is interested in structural biology and structure-based drug discovery. The successful candidate will work in a highly collaborative research environment and will be responsible for the production of high-quality protein samples for NMR-based structural biology projects. The applicant must have a solid training in protein biochemistry, protein overexpression and purification in E. coli and experience in characterizing protein interactions. The new resource will work closely with the NMR group and will provide support in sample preparation for spectroscopic studies. In addition to these tasks, it is expected that the successful candidate will gradually learn how to acquire and analyze NMR data independently to assist the team’s needs. Therefore, possession of an enthusiastic and proactive attitude towards learning is a must.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop, optimize and innovate protein purification processes. Maximize protein yields, activity, stability and purity for NMR-based projects
  • Design, troubleshoot and execute bench experiments carefully and precisely. Apply standard molecular biology, biochemical and cell biology techniques to achieve research goals
  • Sustain protein production for internal and external needs
  • Perform ongoing care and upkeep of instruments used primarily for protein production
  • Provide support to the NMR group and participate to research activities aimed at improving existing and/or developing new tools for structural biology
  • Perform technical evaluation of research experiments and results, perform data analysis and keep detailed records of data
  • Present data and reports on project status to multidisciplinary teams and external collaborators


  • Experience with expression and purification of recombinant proteins from E. coli and other hosts
  • Hands on experience in various chromatographic purification techniques, including but not limited to affinity, ion exchange, and size exclusion
  • Knowledge of cloning techniques for plasmid construction
  • Extremely organized and able to efficiently manage your time and workflow in regard of both long-term projects and day-to-day responsibilities
  • Highly collaborative, team-oriented, and able to quickly learn and adapt to the team’s need
  • Hands on experience in NMR spectroscopy is not essential but will be considered an asset
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills, particularly when collaborating with other teams with limited knowledge of your area of expertise
  • Excellent knowledge of spoken and written English is mandatory


Required: Ph.D. in Biological Sciences (Structural Biology, Biochemistry, Biophysics or related fields.
