Job Description

We are seeking a brilliant and highly motivated Research Scientist proficient in molecular biology and virology to join our High Throughput Biology and Screening Unit focusing on the design and execution of a range of cell based and biochemical assays to enable IRBM’s discovery and development programs targeting multiple viral diseases. The successful candidate will bring significant expertise in the field of virology/molecular virology and will proactively contribute to the design, development and execution of biochemical and cell-based assays for the screening, identification and validation of active compounds. She/he will collaborate with other cross-functional teams and present results internally and externally: the ability to work in a fast-paced team-centered environment with outstanding multi-tasking skills is a must. This position provides an opportunity to participate in multiple stages of projects and to provide significant contribution to our research and development efforts.

Key responsibilities:

  • Working independently, develop novel cell based & biochemical assays to validate drug discovery targets and/or progress lead optimization projects.
  • Utilize a wide-range of molecular, cellular biology, and biochemistry techniques to characterize compounds mechanism of action and perform target validation studies, including, but not limited to, molecular cloning, genetic modification (CRISPR, siRNA), enzymatic assays, qPCR, immunoassays, western blotting.
  • Troubleshoot, optimize, and execute bench experiments carefully and precisely. Make detailed observations as experiments are conducted. Maintain complete and accurate records of all work done in the laboratory. Analyze data and interprets results. Present and discuss results of experiments with the department and project teams.
  • Maintain high level of professional expertise through familiarity with scientific literature.
  • Maintain high standards of laboratory safety, comply with all safety requirements according to Italian laws.

Leadership competencies/skills:

  • Proven hands-on experience in modern molecular biology and virology.
  • Expertise in cellular biology and in maintenance of and experimentation with cell lines, including sterile cell culture techniques, cell preservation, and cell-based assays.
  • Hands-on experience on high throughput techniques would be an advantage
  • Outstanding time management and organizational skills; capability to work under pressure and deliver data in a timely manner.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.
  • The ability to work in a cross-functional work environment is critical; good inter-personal communication skills and independence are expected.
  • Good knowledge of written and spoken English is mandatory.

Qualifications:

PhD in Biology, Biochemistry, Virology or related fields with at least 2+ years of relevant experience in academic or industrial environment.
