Peptides offer exciting potential as therapeutic interventions that closely mimic natural pathways. At IRBM, the peptide chemistry group has world-class expertise in developing peptide therapeutics and an excellent track record in the clinic, boasting more than 25 patent applications and 5 approved clinical candidates since 2010.

The team has extensive experience in different therapeutic areas with a focus on target identification and validation, and lead optimization. Our hit-to-lead process will take your concept from initial peptide engineering and design, through multi-parametric optimization for activity, efficacy, selectivity and metabolic stability.

During the discovery phase we exploit our extensive collection of non-natural amino acids (>1000 commercial and ad hoc synthesized) and chemical constraints to stabilize the active conformation.

Our integrated approach complements and extends discovery efforts with additional tools. These include our phage display libraries, NMR-based structural studies and the bioanalysis of peptides for in vitro and in vivo ADME studies supported by state-of-the-art mass spectrometry instrumentation.

To overcome issues such as rapid enzymatic degradation and renal clearance, we optimize pharmacokinetics (PK) profiles by modifying peptide structures and derivatizing with half-life extending moieties.

Finally, potential pseudo-anaphylactic effects caused by mast cell activation and histamine release can be assessed in vitro, ensuring a cost-effective way to identify undesirable responses prior to clinical trials.
