On the subject of the health emergency, let’s talk about the vaccines with Antonella Armentano.

ANTONELLA ARMENTANO (VOICE OVER)

Human trials got under way last week in England. The project is the result of a British-Italian partnership between the Jenner Institute at the University of Oxford and the bio-engineering company Advent IRBM in Pomezia. For the volunteers selected to test the coronavirus vaccine, this experience represents a challenge.

PIERO DI LORENZO

Things have accelerated considerably because the British regulatory authority felt that our experience, which has been made available to the Jenner Institute at Oxford University, was a further guarantee in addition to the laboratory tests.

ANTONELLA ARMENTANO (VOICE OVER)

250 people work at IRBM, split between the head office in Pomezia, and Milan and Naples, a body of scientists and researchers with experience of working abroad.

PIERO DI LORENZO

I think that within 4 or 5 months, by the end of September we believe, we will have the response from the clinical trial.

ANTONELLA ARMENTANO (VOICE OVER)

The IRBM research centre has made available its extensive experience of the adenovirus, which was further consolidated by having made a million doses of the Ebola vaccine in 2014.

PIERO DI LORENZO

If the clinical trial on humans goes well, I think we should have a dose ready by the end of the year, I mean a sufficient quantity of doses to offer vaccination to the most exposed and most vulnerable categories.
